Waste Not Want Not

Simply throwing waste away means that we are discarding valuable resources. Waste items can often be repaired and reused or recycled into new, useful items.

Reducing, reusing and recycling YOUR waste prevents the environmental damage that is caused by mining or otherwise extracting fresh natural resources from the Earth. It can also prevent the pollution that is caused by the manufacturing process and saves valuable energy. This in turn can help prevent global climate change.

Preventing waste from occuring in the first place means that it will not have to be disposed of. Most of Scotland's waste at present is sent to landfill sites around the country. The gases that are emitted from landfill sites are thought to contribute to global warming.
