Waste Aware South Lanarkshire - kerbside Recycling scheme.

The South Lanarkshire kerbside recycling scheme begins on the 13th October 2003. A blue bin has been provided for the collection of cans, cardboard, paper and plastic bottles in Hamilton old town, Silvertonhill, Meikle Earnock, Blantyre and Uddingston. This scheme will roll out across South Lanarkshire.

What is and what isn't allowed in your blue recycling bin.

The following items are allowed in your blue recycling bin:

  • Cans - aluminium & steel
  • Cardboard - all types that have not been in contact with food
  • Paper - newspapers, junk mail, magazines, telephone books (no Yellow Pages)
  • Plastic bottles - plastic soft drinks & water bottles
    milk bottles

Please do not put place materials in plastic bags or place additional bags next to your Blue bin.
Please wash and squash your cans and plastic bottles before placing them into your Blue recycling bin.
It is important that only the correct recyclates go into your Blue recycling bin as this makes the sorting process easier.

Your Blue recycling bin will be emptied every two weeks alternating with your normal household bin. Your normal collection day will not change.

All other recycling and waste disposal services are detailed in your waste and recycling guide.
These include:

  • Your blue Recycling bin
  • Your normal household waste
  • Your bulky waste uplift service
  • Your green waste uplift service
  • Your civic amenity and recycling centres
