Recycle your household waste

Did you know there are kerbside recycling services available in 30 Local Authority areas in Scotland?
Most Local Authorities in Scotland now offer kerbside recycling services for materials such as cans, plastic, garden waste and paper etc. To find out more about kerbside recycling in your area, visit Sort It, or call your Local Authority.

There are also nearly 2000 Recycling Centres and Points across Scotland!
Recycling Centres and Points across Scotland accept a number of different materials to be recycled. The number of materials you can recycle locally will surprise you! To find out where your nearest Recycling Centres and Points are, visit Sort It, or call your Local Authority.


In your home there are probably household items you no longer require. Why not pass them on to those in need?

Donate unwanted paint

Community Re-paint is a network of paint schemes across the UK. The purpose of each scheme is to collect reusable paint from householders and redistribute it amongst the community. To find out where your nearest scheme is, visit www.communityrepaint.org.uk or visit Sort It at www.wascot.org.uk.

Donate unwanted furniture and household items There are furniture redistribution schemes across Scotland. To find out where your nearest one is, visit www.morethanfurniture.org.uk, or call the Community Recycling Network for Scotland (CRNS) on 01786 469002.

Donate your unwanted clothes, books, CD’s, and bric-a-brac

In Scotland, there are around 600 charity shops waiting to take your unwanted goods!
Charity shops around Scotland will accept donations of unwanted clothing, books, CD’s and bric-a-brac in a sellable condition. To find out where your nearest charity shop is, visit Sort It, or call your Local Authority.

Try Home Composting
Compost bins are available from 24 Local Authorities across Scotland. Many Local Authorities offer home composters at a discounted price. Call your Local Authority or visit Sort It to find out more.

Reject Junk Mail
You can reduce unwanted direct mail by registering with the Mailing Preference Service (MPS). This is a free service funded by the direct mail industry to enable you to have your name and home address removed from lists used by the industry.
