Recycle

Recycle is the third level of the Waste Hierarchy. It means using waste materials to manufacture other products of an identical or similar nature. Recycling materials like cans, glass, paper and textiles recovers the valuable resources in waste to make new products. For example, you can take your glass bottles and jars to your local recycling point and they will be cleaned, crushed and recycled into new bottles and jars. You can visit Sort It for more information on how you can Recycle your waste locally, including a full list of recycling centres and points for each local authority area in Scotland.

Recycling your waste:
  • Saves the Earth’s natural resources.
  • Saves energy and reduces the risk of global warming.
  • Reduces the need for landfill.

You can find a full list of recycling centres and points for each local authority area in Scotland on the Sort It tool.

Use the menu on the right to see what happens to your waste materials after they are collected for recycling. You can visit Sort It for more information on how you can recycle your waste locally.
