Recycling in the Lothian & Borders area is mainly done via Recycling Centres and Points.

East Lothian

ELVON (East Lothian Voluntary Organisations Network) have facilities to re-use old furniture and computers.

Edinburgh

In Edinburgh you can recycle:

Free compost bins for Edinburgh residents.

Free compost bins are available to Edinburgh residents as part of a year-long home composting trial run by the City of Edinburgh Council in partnership with LEEP Recycling. Anyone that would like a bin should make their way to the LEEP reception at 36 Newhaven Road between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. A bin can also be collected on a Saturday between 10am and 1pm from the warehouse behind LEEP. One bin is available per household following the completion of a short questionnaire. Information on what to put into the bins and how to produce good quality compost is also provided.

Plastic Recycling Points in Edinburgh

Residents of Edinburgh will be glad to hear that they can now recycle thier plastic bottles. Recycling points for empty plastic bottles have been installed at the following locations:

  • Sainsburys , Craigleith;
  • Tesco, Colinton Mains Road;
  • Tesco, Costorphine;
  • Potterow;
  • Cameron Toll;
  • Safeway, Hunter's Tryst;
  • James Gillespie School, Warrender Park Road;
  • Safeway, Piersfield Terrace;
  • Safeway, Ferry Road;
  • Safeway, Gilmerton Road;
  • ASDA, The Jewel;
  • LEEP Headquarters, Elizafield, Newhaven.

Scottish Borders

In the Scottish Borders you can recycle:

There is also a Green Waste Collection Scheme in operation from 26th April 2003 to 31st October 2003. This scheme covers those residents living in Hawick, Jedburgh, Kelso, Ancrum and Denholm.
