Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway: Facilities

Recycling in the Ayshire, Dumfries & Galloway area is mainly done via Recycling Centres and Points. There are also kerbside recycling collections in some areas. Click on the links below to find out what you can recycle in your area:


Dumfries and Galloway: Reuse

The Stranraer Furniture Project accepts donations of furniture, electrical items and other household goods. These are refurbished and sold at an price that is affordable by families who may not otherwise be able to afford them. You can contact them at:

Dumfries and Galloway: Recycle

There are 10 recycling centres and 70 recycling points in Dumfries and Galloway where you can recycle the some of the following items:

  • Books
  • Cans
  • Cardboard
  • Gas cylinders
  • Glass bottles
  • Green waste
  • Newspapers
  • Plastic bottles
  • Scrap metal
  • Shoes
  • Textiles
  • Used engine oil

Some parts of Annandale have a paper kerbside recycling collection. These are:

  • Galabank (paper collected on the second Thursday of each month)
  • Greenknowe (paper collected on the second Monday of each month)
  • High Tae (paper collected on the first Thursday of each month)
  • Lochmaben (paper collected on the third Wednesday of each month)
  • Springbells and Standanlane (paper collected on the second Friday of each month)

Dumfries and Galloway: Disposal

Household waste from Annandale & Eskdale and Nithsdale is landfilled at Locharmoss. The waste from Stewartry goes to Aucheninnes Waste Disposal Site and the waste from Wigtown goes to Galdenoch Waste Disposal Site.


East Ayrshire

There are over 30 recycling centres in East Ayrshire for use by the general public. At these recycling centres you can recycle:

  • aluminium and steel cans
  • car batteries
  • cardboard
  • fridges
  • garden waste
  • glass bottles and jars
  • paper
  • scrap metal
  • textiles
  • used engine oil
  • wood

North Ayrshire

In North Ayrshire you can recycle the following:

  • aluminium cans
  • glass bottles and jars
  • oil
  • paper
  • textiles
  • wood

South Ayrshire

In South Ayrshire there are 10 Recycling Centres. At these, you can recycle:

  • gas cylinders (empty)
  • glass bottles and jars
  • paper
  • scrap metal
  • textiles
  • wood
