Perth & Kinross: Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling

6 out of 10 people living in Perth & Kinross want to be able to recycle their garden waste from home.

Since July 5 th, 2004 the Perth and Kinross Garden Waste Collection Scheme has been available to 23,500 households throughout Perth and Kinross.

Householders are provided with a BROWN lidded bin for the collection of garden waste. Every household in the collection area has also received a leaflet giving more information about the scheme and detailing collection dates.

If you need further information on this scheme please contact 01738 476 476 or e-mail recycle@pkc.gov.uk

WHAT can I recycle?

Your BROWN LIDDED BIN allows you to recycle:

  • Coffee ground & teas bags/leaves
  • Flowers & plants
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Sawdust & bark
  • Small twigs
  • Uncooked fruit & vegetable waste
  • Weeds

In order to generate high quality compost it is important that only the correct materials go into your brown lidded bin.

Please do not put the following materials in your brown lidded bin:

  • Cooked food, meat, fish or dairy products
  • Large branches & logs
  • Plastic bags/bin liners
  • Soil, stone or rubble
WHY should I recycle?

Recycling saves energy and resources and prevents the need for landfill. This can help prevent global warming. After your garden waste is collected it is taken to a central composting facility.

WHEN can I recycle?

Please ensure that your brown lidded bin is out on the kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day. Your brown lidded bin will be collected every two weeks in the summer and every four weeks in the winter.

A leaflet detailing the collection dates has been distributed to each household in the kerbside collection area. If you haven’t received one, please phone the Environment Services Helpline on 01738 476 476.
