Dundee: Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling

Since 16 th August 2004, the Dundee Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling scheme has been extended to around 30,000 households throughout Dundee.

Householders are provided with a BROWN bin for the collection of garden waste. Every household in the collection area has also received a leaflet giving more information about the scheme and detailing collection dates.

If you need further information on this scheme please contact the Waste Management Dept on 01382 432777.

WHAT can I recycle?

Your BROWN BIN allows you to recycle:

  • Flowers
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Plants
  • Small branches & bark
  • Twigs
  • Weeds

In order to generate high quality compost it is important that only the correct materials go into your brown bin.

Please do not put the following materials in your brown bin:

  • Kitchen waste
  • Meat & dairy products
  • Plastic bags
  • Soil or stones
WHY should I recycle?

Recycling saves energy and resources and prevents the need for landfill. This can help prevent global warming.

After your garden waste is collected it is taken to the Riverside Composting Facility where it is processed and turned into Discovery Compost which is on sale at Riverside as an alternative to peat based composts. You can purchase Discovery Compost for 50p per bag or £10 per ton. Telephone the Waste Management Dept on 01382 432777 for more details.

WHEN can I recycle?

Please ensure that your brown bin is out on the kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day. Your brown bin will be emptied from the kerbside according to your calendar. A leaflet detailing the collection dates has been distributed to each household in the kerbside collection area. If you haven’t received one, please contact the Waste Management Dept on 01382 432777.
