Midlothian Residents Invited to Meeting on Waste Management

Would you like to find out more about Recycling of Waste in Midlothian? If so, come along to Midlothian Council's Community Forum on waste recycling at Lasswade High School on Thursday 7th October.

The Council has just been awarded £31million from the Scottish Executive's Strategic Waste Fund for a 16 year recycling initiative to include kerbside collections. The Council hope that by providing doorstep recycling facilities it will be easier for the public to play their role in waste management.

Cllr Jack Aitchison Chair of the Environment Protection Committee said: "There will be a presentation and exhibition on waste management, an opportunity to meet officials from the Council's Waste Management Team and a chance to take part in a question and answer session. I would encourage people to come along."

Councillor Derek Milligan, Cabinet Member for Commercial Services said: "There is good support to introduce recycling in Midlothian. In a recent Midlothian citizen's panel survey, recycling was supported and welcomed by almost 80% of participants. As we are gearing up to introduce kerbside recycling it is important that we let local people find out more about the proposals and give them an opportunity to share their views."

The community forum is at 7pm on Thursday 7th October at the Assembly Hall, Lasswade High School, Bonnyrigg. The meeting will be chaired by Cllr Jack Aitchison. Refreshments will be provided.

Further information about the event is available on www.midlothian.gov.uk
