Eco School visits Alpha Plus Group

Livingston company, Alpha Plus Group, recently played host to Deans Primary School’s Eco Committee.

Alpha Plus Group is one of Scotland’s leading providers of environmental and waste management equipment and proved an ideal host for the Deans school children who showed a keen interest in ways to improve the environment.

Led by their teacher Mrs Reynolds, seven Eco students had the opportunity to see and use some of the latest technology for waste reduction and plastics recycling. This included a crushing machine that processes empty plastic bottles and cans, reducing their volume by up to 5 to 1, thereby significantly reducing transport costs.

Alpha Plus Managing Director, Steve Matthews, believes that by crushing waste material most businesses can make significant savings in their transport and waste management costs, which has the knock on effect of reducing emissions into the atmosphere.

Deans Primary School has been part of the Eco Schools programme since autumn 2003. The children have been working hard to eliminate litter in the playground and surrounding areas. Within the school, everyone is attempting to cut waste. They are recycling items such as plastics, aluminium, stamps and ink cartridges. A successful bird feeding programme is also underway.
