Compost Awareness Week

Compost Awareness Week is an annual, international multimedia publicity and education initiative to showcase compost production and demonstrate compost use.  Compost Awareness Week 2006 took place from Sunday 7 to Saturday 13 May. This year’s central theme was: “Add Power to your flowers...compost.”

Compost Awareness Week aims to encourage the public and business communities alike to take action to support composting at all scales and to use composts. This initiative began in Canada in 1995 and was brought to the UK for the first time in 2001 by The Composting Association.

More information about Compost Awareness Week 2007 will be provided on this site in due course.

Composting is Nature's way of recycling. Composting refers to a recycling technique that uses natural processes to convert organic materials to humus through the action of micro organisms and bacteria in soil. Compost is a mixture that consists largely of decayed organic matter, such as garden and kitchen waste, and is used for fertilising and conditioning land.
