Aberdeen City: Garden Waste Kerbside Collection Scheme

67% of people living in Aberdeen City want to be able to recycle garden waste at home.

Over 20,000 households in Aberdeen City have been provided with a brown wheeled bin to allow them to recycle their garden waste. The scheme will be phased in over the next few years to cover most of the city.

For more information please refer to your Waste Aware Grampian guide, call 01224 52 33 10, email WasteAware@aberdeencity.gov.uk or visit www.aberdeencity.gov.uk.

WHAT can I recycle?

YOU can place the following materials in your brown bin:

  • Flowers, plants & weeds
  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Small branches & bark
  • Twigs
HOW can I recycle?

Please help us to get it sorted:

  • Do not put garden waste into plastic bags as these cannot be composted.
  • Do not place any rubble or soil into your brown bin.
  • Do not place any food waste including meat, fruit, vegetable and dairy waste, into your
    brown bin.
WHEN can I recycle?

Your garden waste is collected fortnightly from April to November.

In some cases the collection starts on the last week in March and runs into the beginning of December.

Please place your garden waste in your brown bin, and put your brown bin out on the kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day.

Your collection day varies depending on where you live. A guide insert detailing the collection dates has been distributed to each household participating in the scheme. If you have not received one, please call 01224 52 33 10 or email WasteAware@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

WHY can I recycle?

Recycling saves energy and resources and prevents the need for landfill. This can help prevent global warming.

After your garden waste is collected, it will be taken to a composting facility where the compost produced will be used for agricultural purposes.
