East Renfrewshire Pilot Dry Recyclate Recycling Service for Flatted Properties

A pilot recycling service for dry recyclates became available to some of East Renfrewshire's flatted properties in July 2004. The selected properties have been provided with clearly labelled communal blue bins; one for paper and one for cans and glass.

WHAT is and what isn't allowed in your blue bin for paper

The following items are allowed in your blue bin for paper:

  • Computer paper
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Telephone directories

The following items are not allowed in your blue bin for paper:

  • Envelopes
  • Yellow Pages

 

WHAT is and what isn't allowed in your blue bin for cans and glass

The following items are allowed in your blue bin for cans and glass:

  • Aluminium cans
  • Steel cans
  • Glass bottles
  • Glass jars

The following items are not allowed in your blue bin for cans and glass:

  • Other forms of glass such as drinking glasses, light bulbs or window glass.
WHY should I recycle?

After your dry recyclates are collected, they are taken to reprocessing plants where:

Cans are recycled into new aluminium and steel cans.
Glass is cleaned, crushed and used in construction.
Paper is pulped and recycled into newsprint and other paper products.
