Waste Aware East Renfrewshire - Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling

Thank you for helping us to get it sorted...
Thanks to the efforts of local residents, 3000 tonnes of garden waste has been recycled since the Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling scheme re-started on the 29th of March 2004.  Households in the following areas are currently covered by the scheme: Giffnock, Clarkston, Newton Mearns and Barrhead and its surrounding areas.

WHAT can I recycle?

The following items are allowed in your brown bin:

  • flowers and plants
  • hedge clippings
  • lawn mowings and weeds
  • sawdust and wood shavings
  • small branches and bark

The following items are not allowed in your brown bin:

  • kitchen waste (especially fruit and vegetables, meat and dairy products)
  • plastic bags

WHY should I recycle?

It is important that only the correct materials go into your brown bin to ensure that the compost produced is of a good standard.

WHEN can I recycle?

Your brown bin will be collected every two weeks from April to October. Bins need to be placed at your kerbside by 7.00am on your collection day. Garden waste is collected by a different vehicle from residual waste and therefore may be collected at a different time.

During the months when the Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling scheme is not operating, you can take your garden waste to the Recycling Centres at Carlibar Road, Barrhead and Ayr Road, Loganswell.

For further information on the East Renfrewshire Garden Waste Kerbside Recycling scheme, you can phone the Recycling Helpline on 0141 577 3001, or you can visit www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk
